18K Vacheron Constantin Jumbo "222", ref. 44018 from the 1970s. An impressive and rarely seen 37mm Vacheron Constantin Jumbo in 18-karat gold, designed by Jörg Hysek and introduced in 1977 – the year VC celebrated its 222nd anniversary. Only 100 examples of this reference were produced in gold, and approximately 20-30 examples featured the dark gray dial. The watch measures 37mm and boasts a beautiful dark gray tritium dial adorned with an elegant Maltese cross. The dial also features a date function. The bezel on this Vacheron is screw-down, requiring specialized tools to remove it and access the movement. This fascinating construction highlights the meticulous craftsmanship and technical ingenuity behind this watch. The case, made of 18-karat gold, is adorned with a discreet Maltese cross in the lower-right corner. The case facets evoke comparisons to the Patek Philippe Nautilus and Audemars Piguet Royal Oak from the same era. The integrated 18K gold bracelet with hexagonal center links is exceptionally well-crafted and elegant, showing minimal stretch. The solid case back features the engraved "222" logo, along with hallmarks. The movement is an automatic Ultra-thin Cal. 1121 with 36 jewels, designed and manufactured by Jaeger-LeCoultre, though it was never used in their own watches. The same movement can be found in the AP Royal Oak and PP Nautilus from the same period. This iconic Vacheron Constantin laid the foundation for today’s Overseas collection and represents a significant piece of VC's illustrious history. Vacheron Constantin has recently introduced a modern reinterpretation of the legendary 222. This watch comes with boxes, hangtag, and a service center booklet.
