Rolex Submariner "Red Sub", ref. 1680 from 1969 (2215xxxSN). One of the most sought after vintage Rolex sports watches, the Red Sub, that without a doubt is considered a classic and that would be a great addition to any vintage collection. This particular Red Sub is fitted with a period correct Mk3 dial, that ran simultaneously with the Mk2 dial, that it also shares several similarities with. The Mk3 differs from the Mk2 with a thicker font, a shorter F in the word 'feet' and slightly different positioning of letters. As said, the Mk2 & Mk3 dials ran simultaneously, with no real telling of which dial came first. perhaps it would've been more correct to name them Mk2a & Mk2b. The dial achieved a super attractive and even off-white patina over time and is in great condition. No flaking, corrosion or any other signs of damage whatsoever. In other words, this is an absolutely flawless dial. The hands has the same pleasing and even patina, perfectly matching the dial. It appears that the tritium on the minute hand, at some point has flaked a bit, so a thin layer of lacquer has been applied to the backside of the hand, in order to prevent any further flaking. This is only visible through a magnifier. The hands are, as the dial, in great shape with no pitting, dings or dents. The case has over the years been slightly detailed, but remains very nice, fat and symmetric. Same goes for the lugs, that are very thick. Crown guards are nice end even. The insert is a newer Rolex service insert, with a pearl matching the hands and dial beautifully. This Submariner sits on a Rolex 93150 Oyster bracelet, from 1982, without no stretch. End links are correct 580´s. The watch comes with verification from Danish AD Klarlund and box.
