Rolex Daytona “Patrizzi” 16520, W3 serial, sold December 1995 Rolex Daytona ref. 16520 in stainless steel with black tritium dial, Oyster bracelet and stainless steel tachymeter bezel. This is the Zenith Daytona generation, where Rolex used a modified Zenith El Primero movement, giving the 16520 a special place in Daytona history. This example is a W3 serial, sold in December 1995 by an EU retailer, and features the sought after black “Patrizzi” dial. The name refers to dials where the light subdials have developed a warm beige or brownish tone over time. This is a natural patina seen on selected Daytona dials from the mid 1990s, and is especially associated with W, S and T serials. An important detail on this watch is that the white gold rings around the subdials remain sharp and have not oxidised. This is a significant collector detail, as it supports the dial appearing original and not manipulated. The watch is fitted with a 78390 Oyster bracelet with 503B end links. The clasp is stamped W5, which corresponds well with the period of the watch. Inside is the Rolex Caliber 4030, an automatic chronograph movement based on the Zenith El Primero and modified by Rolex.
